Laser Vision Correction
Lowry Ophthalmology has been providing quality LASIK and PRK in the triangle for over a decade. Due to advances in laser technology, we are now able correct most patients with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. We are also pleased to offer correction for MonoVision patients now with CustomVue technology. Our state of the art VISX S4 laser is housed on-site in our surgery facility. Although the type of laser used is important, it is more important to know the qualifications and experience of the physician performing the procedure. Dr. Lowry or Dr. Porter personally perform each examination prior to the procedure, perform the surgery, and all post operative care during the follow-up period. It's this continuity of care that provides excellent LASIK and PRK results at Lowry Ophthalmology.
Lowry Ophthalmology offers custom WaveScanTM Lasik using our in-office VISX S4 laser with Iris Registration technology. When combining this technology with Dr. Lowry's experience in performing over 8000 LASIK procedures and Dr. Porter being fellowship trained specializing in refractive surgery, you can rest assured you've made the best choice for you... and your vision.
What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is the most popular refractive procedure which uses the VISX S4 laser to reshape the cornea under a thin corneal flap. The hinged flap is moved aside to reshape the cornea using the Excimer laser. The flap is then repositioned and adheres back to the underlying cornea. The entire procedure generally takes less than 5 minutes per eye. It is very common for our patients to drive themselves back to our office the day following surgery without the use of contacts or glasses. Most patients are able to return to work the day after this procedure.
What is PRK?
PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy) uses the same VISX S4 laser to perform refractive surgery on the surface of the cornea, without the use of the corneal flap. The main indication for PRK is in patients without enough corneal thickness to utilize a corneal flap.
